“Fantasy and reality often overlap”
- Walt Disney
“Disneyland and Disney World have become cultural phenomenons. Walt Disney’s legacy still lives on in the magical world he created.”
-The Walt Disney Company
Disney imagineered its parks to give the allure of never having to grow up. Once you enter the looming golden gates, you should feel care-free. Your worries have been wiped away. Every beauty finds everlasting happiness, after all, you're in the happiest place on earth, aren't you?
Mickey Mouse was created to cast a false spell of happiness, packaged as innocence and cheer, and sold to us solely for consumerist gain
“The cultural alchemy of Marcel Duchamp has been superseded by the sorcery of Mickey Mouse.”
By creating characters that he could control, and building a fake world of pure glee, Walt Disney was able to turn his wonderful world into a globalized consumerist definition of culture.
